NSW는 9,656을 기록해 5월 2일 발표된 7,723보다 증가세를 보였다. NSW에서 23명이 사망했다.
빅토리아주에서는 입원이 증가했고 NSW주에서는 감소했다.

이 수치는 초기 증거가 COVID-19의 새로운 하위 변종인 BA.2.12.1 오미크론 변종이 더 전염성이 있다는 것을 시사하는 가운데 나온 것이다. 빅토리아주 보건 당국은 금요일 남동부 대도시 멜버른의 폐수 수집소에서 이 균주를 발견했다.

이 변종이 더 심각한 질병을 유발한다는 증거는 없다.
